Hydrangea Twist-n-Shout
Hydrangea macrophylla 'PIIHM-I' (PPAF)
In 2009, it will be available in limited quantities
exclusively to independent garden centers in North America
Like all plants in the Endless Summer® Collection, Twist-n-Shout produces abundant blooms on both old and new wood all summer long. What makes Twist-n-Shout so special? Developed by Dr. Michael Dirr of the University of Georgia, Twist-n-Shout is a cross between H. ‘Penny Mac’ and H. ‘Lady in Red,’ and combines the best characteristics of both plants. The blooms have a lacy deep-pink center and are surrounded by gorgeous blossoms of pink or periwinkle blue, depending on soil type. Sturdy red stems and glossy deep green leaves turn red-burgundy in fall to offer year-round interest in the garden. Easy to care for and hardy to zone 4, Twist-n-Shout is an elegant stand-alone specimen, dramatic in combination with other plants, and compact enough for containers.
Height / Spread: H 3-4’ x 3-4’ W
Foliage: Green
Fall Foliage: Red-burgundy
Flower Color: Lace cap type flowers with pink blooms in alkaline soil; blue blooms in acidic soil
Zone: 4-9

Hydrangea
Big Daddy
Giant 12-14 flower-heads are the
hallmark of this charming Hydrangea bred by ItSaul
Plants. Big Daddy is offered exclusively
to independent garden centers as part of the award-winning
Plants that Work program in limited quantities for
2004. Pink in alkaline (limey) soils and blue in acidic
soils, Big Daddy offers trouble-free garden
grouping or commands attention just as an accent plant.
Each gigantic flower-head is composed of masses of
tightly-clustered florets that radiate bright color.
Perfect for fresh, and dried arrangements, Big
Daddy will add intrigue and romance to the garden
with blooms from early summer through fall
an
especially long time for a Hydrangea. Even when not
blooming, Big Daddy is attractive. Dark-green, glossy
leaves appear to be polished, on stems that provide
a sturdy branching habit. Unlike many Hydrangeas,
Big Daddy performs fine in the full sun,
though it responds to some shade in the southern part
of its hardiness range. Best of all, Big Daddy
is easy to grow in the hot, humid summers of the South
and the Midwest. Once established in good soil, this
Hydrangea will prove to be a reliable performer with
little need for special care. Over-the-top beauty
doesnt come along very often, and Big
Daddy makes a super addition to any garden setting. |
