The Midwest's Premier Wholesale Grower!
Willoway Greenhouse
Annuals

Our greenhouse facility, built in 2006, includes a 5.1 acre open roof glass range and is located at the Huron Farm. Adjacent to the glass range is 5 acres of gutter connect and ground-to-ground poly covered houses also under the management of the Greenhouse Department. These houses are used primarily for growing perennials and ground covers. The glass range includes a computerized environmental control system, bio-mass boiler system, automated watering booms, heated concrete floors, curtain system and flood floor watering system. The production barn area includes automated transplanter, automated propagation line, canning line and automated soil mixing line.

The Greenhouse Department's primary responsibility is propagation of woody ornamental shrubs and trees, perennials and groundcovers for the nursery's finished production. From June through December, approximately 3 million cuttings are propagated! Once rooted, these liners are shifted to containers or planted out in the field for continued growing to finished saleable size.

Besides propagation for the main nursery, other crops produced by the greenhouse department are tropicals; groundcovers; spring annuals; fall color crops such as pansy, cabbage, kale & garden mums, poinsettias, potted herbs & vegetables; and selected perennials such as brunnera, digitalis, heuchera, ferns as well as a wide variety of ornamental grasses.

During the months of November through March, approximately 1.5 acres of the glass range is devoted to forcing plant material for a variety of Home & garden Shows as well as Trade Shows. Willoway provides forced shrubs, trees and flowering bulbs for over 20 different winter Home & Garden and Trade Shows across the Mid West.
